DUELO DE TITANES

Cuando era pequeña, me gustaba levantarme muy temprano para ver todos mis programas favoritos. Desde “El Espacio de Cositas” para fomentar mi habilidad creativa, así como unas clases de matemáticas en dónde salía un pseudo-robot que enseñaba de manera muy sencilla el cómo sacar la medida de la hipotenusa así como la famosa raíz cuadrada (sin calculadora) que muchos soñábamos en la primaria.

Algunas otras de las series que me encantaba ver eran “Candy” y “Sandybel” con las que lloraba tardes enteras (yo creo que fueron las predecesoras a las telenovelas mexicanas). “Josefina” a la que siempre imaginaba flotando en un vaso con agua. “El diamante mágico” que me hacía pensar que me podría convertir de una niña de 10 años a una mujer curvilínea que era profesional en lo que se me viniera en gana.

Tampoco puedo dejar atrás a “Los Felinos Cósmicos” o mejor conocidos como “Thundercats” que cuya espada del augurio me dejaba ver más allá de lo evidente y al convertirme en Cheetara podría correr largas distancias a toda velocidad. “Los Halcones Galácticos”, “Mazinger Z” (con torpedos que salían desde el pecho), “Sport Billy” (el de las alas en los pies) y cómo poder olvidar a “Los Transformers”.

Sé que voy a sonar “muy niño” pero me podía pasar tardes enteras jugando a que me transformaba en algún carro de carreras (por supuesto que mi detallado era rosa con azul pastel) y que podía tomar forma semi-humana cada vez que fuera necesario.

¿A qué viene toda ésta introducción? A que fui a ver “The Transformers” y a todos los que veían esas caricaturas… se las recomiendo. Tal vez no sea el mejor guión, porque eso de salvar al mundo no creo que tenga demasiado contenido; pero los efectos especiales, MIS RESPETOS. Me encanto el poder ver “en carne y hueso” a personajes que hace 20 años sólo existían en una sola dimensión.

Es una película 100% de acción y ciencia ficción (por supuesto) pero no pueden dejar de ver cómo esos autos deportivos o transportes militares se comienzan a erguir frente a tus propios ojos para entablar así un acalorado duelo. El sonido, la imagen nítida, la acción… todo fue una experiencia que me enchinaba la piel nomás de ver las imponentes luchas.

La recomiendo…

De pura curiosidad me metí a leer las aportaciones de otros lectores en un portal de noticias en Phoenix, AZ. Me dio tristeza el darme cuenta de la mentalidad tan cerrada que tienen ciertas personas al considerar su país el mejor de todos porque han ganado guerras. Por ejemplo:

“Yes, America is the greatest country in the history of the world. The short list:
*The ConstitutionOpportuntity
*Mass production, interchangeable part
*Voting, representative goverment
*Saved the planet THREE times! WWI, WWII, Defeat of the Soviet Empire
*Jazz, Blues, Rock-n-Roll”

A poco no es triste? Me molesta mucho y me entristece el ver en las noticias las cifras de las personas (estadounidenses y de otros países) que mueren a causa de una guerra en donde los únicos y verdaderos intereses son el dinero y el poder. Gente que gobierna disfraza la violencia con patriotismo, y hacen creer a las personas que el matar a otras es por el bienestar del otro país y el engrandecimiento del propio.

Otro comentario que vi fue éste:

“We as a country may have some problems, but we have many privleges that other countries don't have. To those of you who say that this is not the greatest country in the world Move To Another Country you are what is wrong with America.”

Lo empecé a leer y me dio la esperanza de que por fin, alguien con uno poco de más cerebro se dignó a comentar pero al terminar su frase me decepcionó nuevamente.

Seguí leyendo y no me pude contener de expresar mi opinión a lo que contesté:

WHY THE USA IS NOT THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD?

I do not think the United States of America is the greatest country in the world.

Yes, I know I might earn a lot of cyber enemies because of what I just wrote, but I do not think I can select one country as the best of all.

If we happen to be more knowledgeable about world history, we will understand that each country deserves a special spot. There is not hierarchy because the greatness of a nation is not only measured by wealth but by its people, its culture and its historical heritage.

Even the United States is a land of opportunity:

*It is not the wealthiest country in the world (like other European countries)

*It is not the richest per capita (like Luxemburg, Norway or Switzerland)

*It is not the one with the highest economical growth (like China)

*It is not the first one to obtain the independence from another country (like Sweden and Portugal)

*It is not the only one that defeated a more powerful army (like Mexico in “The Battle of Cinco de Mayo”)

*It is not the melting pot of the world; we have other countries who welcome people from other parts of the earth (like France, Switzerland, Mexico and England)

*It is not the safest one among all countries (like Finland)

*It is not the top #1 in:
+Telecommunications (like France)
+Electronics (like Japan)
+Software development (like India)
+Mechanics (like Germany)

*It is not with the one with the most natural resources (like Latin American and African countries)

And by the way… the United States is NOT America. America is divided in 3 large areas:

*North America: Canada, United States and Mexico

*Central America: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama

*South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guinea, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Venezuela and Uruguay

So… no, the United States is not the greatest country in history. It is a wonderful country, I do agree, but there is not only one spot at the top of the chart because the greatness of a country cannot be evaluated in a one-dimensional way.
