I have no words to express the pain
I feel in my heart by thinking of all the kids who lost their lives at Sandy Hook
Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
I cannot imagine the parents’ grief when they found out that a regular
day at school has become a terrible massacre that took away their children too
early in their lives.
I still can’t understand why
governments and/or people are still in favor of the Second Amendment which does
not apply to our time anymore, it needs to be controlled even more to prevent
things like what happened last week.
We can keep our families and
property safe by locking our doors, installing alarms, respecting stop signs
when driving and also call a ride home when we are impaired to do it ourselves. As parents, we must stop sending the wrong
message to our kids:
*To set the example to our own
children, to love them and teach them to be good.
*To stop bullying at home, school
and work. Sometimes people are not open
enough to let you know that it bothers them or they are unable to tell us in a
way that we will listen but believe me, there will be a time when this type of
people will make sure to make their point.
*To obtain our property as a result
of our own effort and not stepping on other people´s to achieve our goals.
*To be a fair boss and pay what is
right to each of our employees and not to try to save some pennies just so we
become wealthier.
*To invest in education and health
and not in popularity campaigns for our politicians.
*To vote for the greater good for
the people and not because we will obtain a personal benefit out of it.
*To stop condemning the people who
have mental problems and instead to offer alternatives to reach out for help.
I truly hate the person who
committed this atrocity, who had no heart to stop his plan when he met the eyes
of those innocent little angels but I also hate the people around him who did
not pay attention if something else was going on with him, he probably felt
alone, abandoned and had no professional help to deal with those emotions.
I commit myself to talk to my kids daily;
to hug them every day, to teach them to work for their goals and understand
that we cannot always get what we want but what is needed will be provided if
we work hard.
I promise I will reach out for
professional help if something is getting out of my hands to ensure the
wellbeing of my family.
I will pray for those 20 families,
the relatives of the other adults who heroically put their lives at risk to
save the rest of their classes and the rest of the innocent people who have
died in other circumstances like the 49 children who died in the fire in Hermosillo,
Mexico due to other people´s irresponsibility and the drug war victims.
We really need to stop and be able
to go outside and let our children enjoy what it is to play at the park like we
used to do when we were kids.
